Paperplane is a multidisciplinary design firm led by Kioni Cho and Daniel Raimond. Kioni's design experience extends from roles as senior designer to project manager at leading architecture and interior design firms in San Francisco, New York, and Philadelphia. She has worked on intimate residential and hospitality projects to a full buildout of the University of Pennsylvania hospital and ground-up designs of a Honda dealership, a catholic church and a winery. Her recent projects include Homemade and Sweet July - Ayesha Curry's experimental popup store and permanent retail project which debuted in Oakland, CA in 2021 and won the SF Design award. https://sfdesignweek.org/awards/sweet-july/

After over a decade of working at various design firms, Kioni’s curiosity to both design and build things with her own hands led to a design/fabrication studio, which showcases her ongoing explorations in furniture, sculpture, visual art and lighting. Her work is often about studies of movement, or about creating memorable experiences of ordinary things by composing them in unexpected ways. Kioni grew up in Singapore and moved to the US for college. She received her BA from the University of Oregon and a Master's degree in Architecture from the State University of New York, Buffalo. She currently lives at Project Artaud, an artist live/work in San Francisco, with her partner, Dan and their daughter, Jura. They love to host cocktail parties in their home.

With experiences as architect and blacksmith, we approach design with a deep understanding of building processes, and regardless of the size or complexity of the project, you will always be working directly with our principals, resulting in the most sensible and efficient designs. As designers, we're inevitably curious about all things design-related. The magical part about having a design/fabrication studio is that we not only get to dream up an idea, but we get to experiment with ways to turn that idea into something tangible with our own hands. There are endless possibilities in design and we are so excited about each and every part of the design process.
